Whitestar turned up at Bude Park to find the pitch in good order and looking forward to a challenging game after losing at home to Swallow 4 -6 in the Cup only 3 weeks prior.
The first half produced some great football from both sides with Whitestar just about having the upper hand. This was a strong physical game as both sides knew a lot depended on the 3 points available as Whitestar & Swallow went into the game on equal point in the league. Whitestar’s young team started to gain the upper hand towards the end of the first half, but could still not get that first goal. An unfortunate incident in the mid field saw Swallow loose a player, straight red, and Whitestar a yellow.
This changed the balance of the game and just before the break, Whitestar made the extra man count as a great ball through from the midfield saw Dan Short leave the Swallow defence behind and calmly slot the ball passed the keeper.
The restart saw Whitestar applying more pressure and settle into a passing game which produced chance after chance as the Swallow defence tired. The second came when the ball was played out wide to Alex Hawksley who ran in towards goal before smashing it into the back of the net. Whitestar then sat back a bit and invited pressure from Swallow but absorbed everything they could throw at them with some great defending.
A well deserved 3 points and a great all round team performance for Whitestar who are now looking for a new sponsor to replace the ‘Love Music, Hate Racism’ campaign kit that has seen better days and was first worn as U-16’s.
