Throughout January members of the Beverley Building Society have been voting in the branch to decide the winner of the Society’s Charity of the Month competition.
After a frantic month of voting the results are in and St John Ambulance have been named as January Charity of the Month.
As the nation’s leading first aid charity, St John Ambulance believes that no one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. However, every year up to 140,000 people die in situations where first aid could have given them a chance to live.
As a charitable organisation St John Ambulance receive no government funding and depend on the support from individuals and groups from within the local community.
Julie Hesmondhalgh, Regional Fundraising coordinated for St John Ambulance said:
“The money the Beverley Building Society has donated will help us to support our charitable activities across the North East Region providing first aid duties at numerous sporting, cultural and community events.”
“The presence of our volunteers means first aid is available for anyone needing treatment, regardless of age or circumstances. If anybody wold like any more information on event cover, first aid training or becoming a St John Ambulance Volunteer please visit our website at www.sja.org.uk”
Graham Carter, Head of Business Development said:
“As a mutual society we let our members decide the causes that they feel we should support, and the Charity of the Month Competition allows us to do this perfectly”.
The Beverley Building Society’s Charity of the Month Campaign is now in its second year of running and has so far donated a total of £3,250 to local charities. If anyone would like to nominate a charity for inclusion in the Beverley’s monthly voting process, they can email michael.plaster@beverleybs.co.uk, telephone 01482 884860 or call in and speak to one of the team.
