Members of the Beverley Building Society have chosen the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) as winners of the Society’s charity of the month competition in February.
MNDA is the only UK charity that funds and promotes global research into the disease and provides support for people affected by MND. The Hull and East Yorkshire group of the MDNA is run entirely by volunteers and relies almost entirely on donations and the generosity of the general public.
Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. The disease can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, symptoms generally vary amongst each individual and will rarely develop at the same time or in the same order.
Andrew Hancock, Treasurer of the Hull and East Yorkshire MND Association said:
“Money raised in the Hull and East Riding is mainly kept in the local area to support carers and to provide equipment such as wheelchairs and stair lifts so that people living with the disease can achieve the highest quality of life possible”
The Beverley Building Society’s Charity of the Month Competition is now in its second year of running and has so far donated a total of £3,500 to local charities.

“As we are a mutual society we are able to engage with our members and let them have a say in the projects and charities that we support. The Charity of the Month Competition lies entirely in our members’ hands – starting with suggesting the charities to be entered into the competition right through to choosing the winner”.
