On a bitterly cold morning Beverley piled on the pressure early pinning Isberg on their own line with some great tackles from James McGahey and Darren Benstead. Following a strong run from Dylan Clifford the ball found Will Johnson who charged down the wing to score a great opening try for the Braves.
The attacking play continued with a dynamic run as always from Callum Officer and the resulting play saw an excellent scoot from Nathan Collinson, the balled was then released to Harry Bulleyment who charged through the defence to Connor Davies who made further yards and the ball which was like a hot potato found the secure hands of Clifford who cleanly placed the ball down to score. Keegan Bartlett added the two points with ease.
It was Hull’s turn to put the pressure on the Braves and they pushed forward and were rewarded with a try to bring the game back within their reach.
On such a cold blustery day at times the game was scrappy but there was some ferocious hits going in, Harry Bell had another good game putting in some big hits and Beverley managed to capitalise well as Johnson side step magnificently through the Isberg defence to score his second try of the game. Bartlett again added to two points expertly.
Beverley had to defend their line again though after a series of penalties against them but they gained possession and McGahey used his skill and found a gap running through for a brilliant try. Bartlett who has played really well so far this season added the two points and the half time whistle blew with the score at 6 – 22.
The second half saw Isberg starting strongly and Owen Harrison took a high ball well in his own in goal area under immense pressure. Beverley charged forward and it was McGahey who scored another great try and despite blustery conditions Bartlett secured the two points. Beverley was starting to build the momentum with such aggression and intensity. Jay Black made some great defensive tackles before sadly picking up an injury.
Officer then made another crunching tackle which forced the opposition to knock on. The resulting play saw Joe Wardill break free pushing aside the Isberg defence making impressive yards before releasing the ball to Harrison who found Clifford supporting well and scoring a great try. Bartlett added the conversion despite having to kick from the side line.
Jack Brown and Keenan Barker battled hard in the middle putting lots of energy into attack and defence and the intense pressure was rewarded with a stunning try from Nathan Collinson who used all his strength to drive low and over the white wash. Bartlett again adding the conversion. Wardill made a dynamic run up the field bombarding his way through the Isberg players to score after a great pass from Collinson and Bartlett added an easy two points. Beverley were now in full flow and Brown made a powerful charge and scored an impressive try using his strength and skill and Bartlett expertly added to the tally with a good kick.
The duo of McGahey and Wardill worked their magic again as they combined for McGahey to complete his hat trick and Bartlett kicked. The game was completed when Collinson scooted from acting half going in low again and forcing his body over the line. Bartlett completed the game with another great kick the final score 6 – 64.
