Olympic Torch Bearer To Lead Beverley Heart Walk

Olympic Torch Bearer To Lead Beverley Heart Walk

Olympic Torch Bearer Janet Nolan will lead the Beverley Heart Walk, taking place this Sunday 24 March to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation.

Janet Nolan was one of only 8000 torchbearers nationwide and was chosen to carry the Olympic torch through Hull in June in recognition of her pivotal role in championing Special Olympics in Hull and regionally. She is currently serving as chairman of the regional Special Olympics.

The Beverly Heart Walk is a free and fun, family-friendly 1.2 mile heart-shaped walk along the established paths and open space of pasture land on the edge of Beverley. The walk starts from Walkington Road (at the western end of Westwood Road), and has views of the Beverley Minster and the Westwood Online registration is now closed and people are now invited to register for free on the day from 9am, to start the walk at 10am.

Janet said, “I am delighted to lead the Beverley Heart Walk this Saturday and hope people of all ages and abilities will turn out to join us. I’m passionate about promoting sport and exercise for all, and walking is a great way to help keep your heart healthy. The British Heart Foundation is a cause close to my heart since my daughter Mary, now aged 21, was born with a hole in her heart. It’s great to know that our efforts will make a difference in helping to beat heart disease for good”.

Simon Barrett, BHF Beverley Fundraising Group Leader, said “We are inviting people across Beverley and beyond to join us to ‘walk the Beverley heart’, not only will taking part help to keep your own heart fit, but you’ll help the British Heart Foundation keep other hearts beating too. There’s no cost to take part, but we would be very appreciative of any donations received on the day”.

All funds raised will go towards the BHF’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal – a groundbreaking research programme that could end the suffering caused by severe heart failure, forever.

Beverley is a BHF Heart Town, one of fewer than fifty heart towns and cities where entire communities are coming together to help beat heart disease. The Beverley Heart Town initiative is being supported by NHS East Riding of Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Beverley Town Council. The Beverley Heart Walk is just one of their activities to promote heart health and raise vital funds to help find a cure for heart failure.
