Beverley Town went into this Humber Premier League clash with the bottom club Bransholme, knowing nothing but three points would be satisfactory in their pursuit for the Humber Premier League title.
There were a number of changes made from the midweek win against St. Andrew, giving the opportunity to freshen up the team, which gives great credit to the strength in depth the squad has.
As of last week, Town were a goal up within a minute when an early corner dropped to centre back Dane Mortimer, who smashed the ball into the back of the net from close range.
Almost immediately a ball by James Whittingham from the left-hand side, led to a foul on striker Jamie Waltham. Captain for the day Michael O’connell stepped up to place his spot kick confidently to the goalkeepers left for Town’s first penalty success in four attempts.
The league leaders were in total control now and increased their lead when midfielder Ben Thomson latched onto a through ball, took one touch with the outside of his right foot and then dispatched a slightly scuffed effort into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Five minutes later Thomson got his second when a great move starting with a throw from goalkeeper Adam Nicholson, this led to a cross from Danny Norton, being side footed home first time by Thomson once again.
Beverley Town were now rampant and gained a fifth when a cross from Whittingham was headed home by Waltham at the far post.
Waltham then gained his second when he played a ball out wide to Norton, who delivered an inch perfect cross to Waltham who showed great movement to volley home for number six.
Just before half-time the industrious Norton notched his first goal of the season when cutting in from the right-hand side, he drilled a left foot drive passed the stranded keeper who had no chance.
Beverley made a change at half-time with 18-year-old Jamie Cording replacing Luke Thompson, and it was Cording who has been in good form for Town’s reserves, who scored his first goal at this level, when the excellent Whittingham provided another cross, which Cording showing good technique side footed home first time.
Town made more substitutions with J.Ricardo replacing O’Connell, and Nathan White coming on for Whittingham.
Waltham claimed his second hat trick in a week with a simple finish to make it nine, and then Beverley hit double figures with a well worked goal, Ricardo playing in Waltham for his fourth of the game and ninth of the season.
The rout was completed with Mortimer finishing from close range for his second and the eleventh which equals Town’s biggest ever Humber Premier league victory.
So in what has been a very good week for Town securing nine points and scoring twenty goals in the process, this has boosted their goal difference considerably, but they still know with four games to go, that they need to continue to put as much daylight between them and the chasing pack as possible.
