Beverley Whitestar Warriors Under 10s hosted Bridlington Rangers Cobras who sat 4th and 3rd in the Hull Boys Sunday Football League table respectively before the match.
In the first game, Beverley started brightly and opened the scoring with short range effort by Sam Overton after a shot by Harry Thompson was deflected. In the second half, the Cobras came back after a defensive mix up and the score remained at 1-1 for much of the second half. It was end to end stuff with both sides testing each others defence until Charlie Nicholson broke the deadlock once again.
With the Warriors back in the lead, confidence grew and a header by Toby Ashworth all but sealed victory with just a couple of minutes to go. To put the icing on the cake, Charlie Nicholson sneaked in a fourth goal in the last minute to leave the Warriors victorious, winning 4-1.
Final Score : Game 1 – Beverley Whitestar Warriors 4 Bridlington Rangers Cobras 1
The team talk by the Cobras manager after the first game obviously did the trick and the Warriors conceded an early goal from a well placed corner. After going 1-0 down however the Warriors dug deep looking for an equalizer.
At half time, trailing 1-0 they made some minor substitutions but once again looked more tired than the Cobras who sensed a victory and calmly slotted away a second goal.
The Cobras must have thought the game was a done deal, but the Warriors dug in and Brooklyn O’Donnell scored a fantastic header to get them back in the game. Pressure was all on Cobras now to hold on to their lead, but a brilliant piece of play from Harvey Barron, on as a substitute fooled their defence and equalised with just 3 minutes remaining.
The Warriors held on and almost stole a late winner but for the crossbar. A great recovery and well earned draw.
Final Score : Game 2 – Beverley Whitestar Warriors 2 Bridlington Rangers Cobras 2
