Work on the maintenance scheme in Beverley’s Saturday Market is progressing as planned, with several sections of York stone pavement refurbished and the first phase of carriageway works, near to the Market Cross, almost complete.
From Monday, 29 April, work will then begin on an extended phase of footway and carriageway works, which incorporates the Sow Hill and Ladygate area and along the north side of Lloyds Bank.
This will also include the construction of a new raised table near to Beercock Wiles & Wick, and are expected to take approximately five weeks.
Sow Hill will be closed to all traffic for the duration of this phase, between Ladygate and Sow Hill, and a diversion will be in place to allow access to Saturday Market via Old Waste and the one-way system in Laydgate will be temporarily reversed to allow access to local traffic.
Yorkshire Water is also continuing with their sewer renewal works, from Dyer Lane to Toll Gavel, and this is expected to continue for a further four weeks.
Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council and its contractor, Galliford Try, are endeavouring to keep any disruption to a minimum for both businesses and customers alike.
“Throughout all phases of this important maintenance scheme, work to business thresholds will be carried out outside of normal working hours to reduce potential adverse impacts.
“We very much appreciate and value the continued support and cooperation of residents and the local business community whilst the improvements are being carried out.”
The council will continue to keep residents updated on the works as they progress and Galliford Try’s site office can respond to enquiries.
