Motorcyclists are invited to find out “how good a rider” they are by booking themselves on one of the BikeSafe workshop running throughout the coming months to have their riding skills assessed.
PC Glen Dennis, from the BikeSafe team said: “Motorcycles make up around one per cent of the traffic on the road but have around 25 per cent of all crashes. Motorcycling is fun but don’t let it put your life in danger.
“We urge riders to think about having their skills assessed by booking themselves on a BikeSafe workshop. By having their skills assessed by an experience rider will help the rider move on to further training which hopefully will make the riding experience safer. Our aim is to reduce the number of riders killed or injured on the regions road.”
The workshop sessions, held between 8.30am-3.30pm in the summer, will be split between an interactive session and an on the road assessment ride. They cost £35 per person and places are limited to 14 riders a session.
The interactive session is delivered by a Police professional and will cover advance riding techniques, motorcycle control, the causes of crashes and bike security. Riders will also be shown the basic first aid techniques they need if they ever have the misfortune of being the first on the scene of a motorcycle crash.
This will be followed by a ride out with an experienced police or advanced rider and this is the time riding skills will be assessed. During the ride out the assessor will give advice on how to improve rider skills.
At the end of the day the team hopes that the riders will consider undertaking further rider training to enhance their riding skills.
