Two new Hull plays that pack an entertaining, emotional punch will open in the city during May.
One act plays, A Delicate Man, by Beverley writer Joanna Morris, and 7 Iron, by Hull-based Julian Woodford, premiere at the New Adelphi on May 15 for a limited run, along with new music by local songwriter Martin Clappison.
“A Delicate Man is about a brilliant, creative academic who ends up homeless and unable to live within the confines of a normal society,” said playwright Joanna Morris, who set up Dale Theatre Company last year to produce exciting, challenging and entertaining work.
“Theatre is a parachute that drops you into the most unlikely of places, and I think with both shows we have been able to do just that.
“Plus, with two plays and live music for the same price of a cinema ticket, this offers good value for money; and in the Adelphi we have a unique venue that suits both.”
7 Iron is the second half of this theatrical double bill.
“It charts the impact of police corruption and brutality on the lives of a young couple who want to get married and have children, only for their dreams to be savagely interrupted,” said Julian Woodford.
A Delicate Man is directed by David Burton, and 7 Iron by Alice Whiteoak and Julian Woodford.
Both productions have called on the wide ranging skills, resources and expertise of Hull and East Yorkshire’s thriving professional and amateur theatre scene, including help from Hull Truck Theatre, Chameleon Players, Ensemble 52, Middle Child Theatre Co., as well as Hull College and the University of Hull’s drama department and society, among others.
Tickets are priced £7 (£5 concessions) and are available either on the night at the Adelphi or in advance from the Reception, Hull School of Art and Design, Park Street, Hull, or from Dale Theatre Company on 07815 045189, email daletheatreco@hotmail.co.uk
