Members of the Beverley Building Society have been voting in their masses for their charity of month and in April local group Go-Kids-Go have been crowned winners in the popular competition.
The Beverley-based charity help children and young people with physical disabilities that are unable to walk. By offering ‘Wheelchair Skills Workshops’ children are trained how to effectively use their wheelchair learning key skills such as back wheel balancing and tackling kerbs and slopes.
The charity also works closely with schools and community groups to educate young people about disability. In February staff from Go-Kids-Go held an activity session with the Walkington Brownies to help them achieve their disability badge.
Upcoming local events include disability awareness raising days at St Mary’s Primary School in Beverley and Nafferton Primary School – both of which have pupils who are wheelchair users.
Vicki Hone the Fundraising Manager for Go Kids Go who nominated the charity for inclusion in the Society’s competition said:
“We are delighted that the members of the Beverley Building Society chose to support Go Kids Go in April. We are a very small charity, based in Toll Gavel Church Hall in Beverley and with the donation we will be able to help local children who have a physical disability to use their wheelchair to its full potential and become independently mobile.”
Kamal Toor, a University of Hull Graduate who has recently joined the accounts department at the Beverley Building Society said:
“There is certainly a community feel at the Society and the charity of the month competition represents this by allowing local customers to vote for a charity that has an impact on their local area.”
The Beverley Building Society’s Charity of the Month Competition is now in its second year of running and has so far donated a total of £4,000 to local charities such as Go-Kids-Go. Last month the Society held its 145th Annual General Meeting in Browns Department and have pledged to donate 50 pence to charity for every vote cast.
