Beverley Braves under tens, sponsored by Blades Glazing & Joinery, got taught a valuable lesson in attitude and application against a Victoria side struggling with numbers but not in skill or in their commitment to each other.
The Braves scored first quite early in proceedings with the prolific prop forward Owen Miller going over out wide after some nice ball work from Shamus Blades and Charlie Gay, converted by Bryan Usher.
This seemed to lure Beverley into a false sense of security and despite scoring further tries through the lively Tom Nuttall, a blindside dash from substitute Cain Robb and a second from Miller they struggled to really get going and at times played like eleven individuals and not as the team of the previous few weeks.
Centre Alexei Rawlings edged the man of the match with probably his best performance this year in the blue and gold whilst young Mr Usher was adjudged top tackler. Winger Matty Shirley kicked his first ever 2 pointer with the other goal coming from the boot of Robb.
Coach Craig Collins said afterwards ‘As Oscar Wilde used to say – BE YOURSELF, AS EVERYONE ONE ELSE IS TAKEN’.
