More than 200 people every week are taking advantage of a new transport agreement launched to help connect rural communities across East Yorkshire.
The Wolds Connection is a joint ticket offered by First Hull Trains and Northern Rail, which was launched last month with support from the local authority and regional rail support groups.
The unique through-ticket allows people travelling to London King’s Cross from stations along the Yorkshire Coast Line to buy a single ticket from either operator – which makes travel cheaper.
David Walford, rail development manager for Rail Development Humber, said: “We welcomed this initiative when the two train operators initially came together as we knew there was a requirement for it.
“It was always going to be a good thing for people across the East Riding travelling down the Yorkshire Coast Line stations and ultimately going to London.
“First Hull Trains is a real asset to this region, but working collaboratively with other transport providers to create an integrated transport network like the company has in this instance is to be welcomed.
“The two companies obviously have their own commercial interests to look after but by working together to provide a much needed service they have been able to create something unique to the UK which greatly benefits a great many people.”
The ticket allows people to travel for from the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds into the hustle and bustle of London for just £10, if booking in advance.
The Wolds Connection enables travellers from Bridlington through Driffield, Beverley and all surrounding towns and villages to buy one ticket at a cheaper rate to London and back again.
Jenny Handley, from First Hull Trains, said: “This service is something we have been working hard on with our colleagues at Northern for some time and to see so many people using it makes that worthwhile.
“We are continually looking to be flexible and respond to what our passengers are asking for and then being able to evidence its use.
“We hope the ticket has proved to be useful and has offered people from across the region great value-for-money on reliable, fast services.”
