Sarah McDowell Scores Big As Beverley Ladies Beat Treeton

Beverley Town Cricket Club’s Ladies welcomed Treeton to the Norwood Recreation Ground on a glorious sunny afternoon, and it was the visitors who won the toss and elected to field.

The Beverley Team was again made up of several juniors who are beginning to get the experience of playing the longer 40 over games.

Beverley dominated this game from the start and even though they lost Beth Smith (14) and Helen Craig (5) early on, a third wicket stand of 171 between Skipper Sarah McDowell (119no) and Amy Halloran (60no) left Treeton with a huge task of getting 240 th win.

In reply Treeton tried hard but fast accurate bowling by Hannah Matthews (six overs 1 for v15), Beth Smith (seven overs 3 for 17), Hannah McCoid (six overs 2 for 10)and Amy Halloran (four overs for 9 runs) killed off any hope the visitors had of reaching the total.

All the team got at least a couple of overs after drinks, which gave several of these young players the first taste of bowling in a senior match.

Skipper Sarah McDowell said;

“Beverley did extremely well, but the opposition were missing several of their senior players. we still need more experienced players if they are to compete with the likes of New Farnley and Vernon Carus.”

“All East Yorkshire clubs need to put more effort into producing girls teams or at least identifying players that can be pooled to form District Teams at Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15.”

Beverley, Cottingham and Yapham are the only pro-active clubs supporting the Women & Girls Development Group, running teams and organising promotion days.
