Pearson Heads Beverley Team At Humber Bridge Half

James Pearson

If you want to decide when to have a summer Barbeque it seems Humber Bridge half weekend is the weekend to pick as the weather once again didn’t disappoint. This challenging course has many steady rises to test the legs and the warm summer breeze on the return over the bridge made the last mile seem a lot longer than it was.

20 Beverley AC runners provided a good representation at the 2013 Humber Bridge half marathon last Sunday. Pick of the crop was James Pearson who came in 2nd overall in 1:17:36. Lewis Holloway had a good day. “I was very pleased as this was my first road half marathon.

It was quite windy and hard going out on the course, but there was fantastic support from the race organisers and spectators all the way round – the sponges and cold water on the climb up the hill after Barton were especially welcome.” He came 3rd in the 40-44 male category and 22nd overall, in 1:26:19. Luke Davison continues to impress and his 1:28:42 was another consistently good effort from him in his 2nd season at the club. 1st lady was Laura Egan in 1:35:23. The race was won by unattached runner, Mike Jefferies in 1:15:06

In the 2.5 race prior to the half, Beverley AC juniors stole all the plaudits. 21 club juniors took part. Harry Powell came 1st overall, with Morgan Dennis, Becky Briggs and Laura Duncan, coming in 1st, 2nd and 3rd girls. There is a strong, talented and hard-working junior section at the club and this has not gone unnoticed as the great attitude and commitment of the team was praised by race organisers and other club coaches.
