Mill Lane United Wizards won the East Riding u11’s tournament at Cottingham in emphatic style beating Costello in the final 5:0.
During the early stages of the competition the Wizards found it hard to find their rhythm as they struggled to get any consistency in their play. After an opening goalless encounter with Vicky Dock they took on Hessle Sporting and a much improved performance saw them run out winners 2:0
Two more wins and a defeat saw them finish second in their group and set up a semi final against Courts.
The semi final was a one sided affair as the Wizards played some scintillating football but despite all the possession and numerous chances Mill Lane United just couldn’t find the back of the net. The Courts keeper was inspired as he kept the Wizards at bay to take the tie into a penalty shoot out.
After missing their first penalty Jack Thurston in the Wizards goal brought them back level and after Harry Sadler, Ben Gillyon and Jamie Pettigrew all converted, Thurston saved again to put Mill Lane United in the final
Costello beat Sutton in the other semi to book their place against Mill Lane United.
The Wizards started the final in dramatic style scoring in the first minute with Gillyon steering the ball home from close range after a great flowing move.
The Wizards were in no mood to let up as Pettigrew drove at the Costello defence and fed Gillyon who smashed his shot into the bottom corner to make the score 2 : 0.
Minutes later it was three as Matty Blake found time and space in the box to rifle his shot past a shell shocked keeper.
In the second period the Wizards carried on in the same vein producing some great attacking football which ended up with Pettigrew driving in a fourth from just outside the box and finally Lloyd Bean capped off a fantastic display with a cool finish to make the final score 5:0
