Mill Lane United Yellows Crowned National Champions

A magnificent day of football resulted in Mill Lane United Yellows been crowned Aces U15 Girls National Football Champions.

In the toughest competition the girls have ever competed in were every team had been crowned league winners in their local area the Yellows fought their way through the group stages to set up a quarter final appearance against Sedgley White Lions of Dudley.

Straight from the kick off Mill Lane United were on the attack and despite the hot conditions the Yellows were playing with enthusiasm and desire and took a deserved lead with a brilliant finish from Tonya Storr (her third goal of the tournament).

Well on top Mill Lane quickly put the game to bed with 2 further goals from Morgan Nagee and captain Emma Johnson. Playing sensible passing football the Yellows played the game out trying to conserve some energy for the semi final.

The results were in and a semi final clash against Cestria Girls of Durham beckoned .The teams had met earlier in the summer in the Skelmersdale Tournament final were Cestria took the honours with a one nil victory courtesy of a penalty near the end of the game. For the Yellows revenge was in the air as the game kicked of with both teams playing fast passing attacking football.

Despite the hot conditions both sides were giving their all probing for the opening that would take them to the final. The yellows were playing their best football of the tournament and ended up well on top creating chance after chance and Cestria were pleased to hear the half time whistle.

Out played Cestria started the second half strongly starting to get a foot hold in the Mill Lane half.Tackles were flying in as no quarter was asked or given as both teams looked for that vital goal. Despite providing the game of the tournament the final whistle went and the dreaded penalties loomed. Cestria had the first chance to take the advantage, but a wild shot flew over the bar to give Mill Lane the early advantage.

Further penalties were exchanged before a Yellows miss levelled the scores. Captain Emma Johnson and Emily Holliday converted to keep the Yellows level. The pressure was now building and up stepped the final Cestria player who failed to convert after Shalgosky got a hand to the shot to give the advantage to Mill Lane.

The dubious responsibility to win the game fell to Charlotte Holliday who Cooley stepped up to give the keeper no chance and give Mill Lane Yellows a final place against Hilton Girls of Derby who won last years tournament. The final gave the Yellows the chance to avenge an earlier defeat in the group stages by Hilton and straight from the kick off they dominated play as they looked to gain the upper hand.

Charging forward the Yellows were in command as they attacked at pace playing some lovely flowing football and the only thing that was missing was a goal their efforts deserved. At the other end the Yellows were thank-full for a brilliant save from impressive goal keeper Shalgosky as she deflected a 25 yard pile drive on to the bar. Finally the pressure told and 2 quick fire goal from Marie (Misty) Russell made the game safe.

The first after good interplay from Charlotte Holliday and Tonya Storr saw Storr find Russell free to blast the ball into the back of the net and the second a classic smash and grab after a great flick on by captain Emma Johnson after a Holliday long throw saw Russell grab her second goal at the far post.

The Yellows played out the last 10 minutes with some controlled passing football and the final whistle blew and Mill Lane Yellows were crowned ACES U15 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 2013.
