Cherry Burton Win Walkington Sixes Tournament

Cherry Burton finished top of the group unbeaten after tremendous victories against South Cave CC, Gilberdyke CC and Walkington CC, seeing them through to the final against the holders Gilberdyke CC.

Cherry Burton batted first, putting on 75 off 5 overs with Stew Scott, Matthew Spencer and Jack Law all smashing the runs. Gilberdyke, then chasing a large score, managed to hit 34 runs off the first two overs, which put them in a good position, until Jack “duck” Wilson chipped the ball up with his foot, throwing it in from the boundary and getting the “danger man” run-out.

Gilberdyke then needed a 6 off the last ball from bowler Jack Wilson for it to finish a tie and go to a bowl-off. Wilson then bowled a short ball which resulted in the needed 6. Cherry Burton then won the bowl off 1-0 with Jack Law turning the ball a mile to seal the victory.

Cherry Burtons Stew Scott finished highest run scorer in the competition.

Cherry Burton has entered the competition for the last five years prior to today, reaching only the semi-finals.

Vice-Captain Stew Scott said, “It was brilliant to win this tournament today, especially when we haven’t even made a final before. We battled hard as a team and deserved to come out as winners. Chris Wilson’s captaincy was the key to winning today, picking the perfect batting order for every game, resulting in us hitting so many high scores”
