Students Picked To Represent Team GB

Pentathletes Adam Price and Georgia Pipes, both 17, from Easingwold, North Yorkshire, have been selected to represent Great Britain and Pentathlon GB at the Under 19 European and World Championships in Russia and China. Over the last four years they have both trained at Bishop Burton College the Regional training Centre for Pentathlon GB, developing the diverse skills of the sport.

As the Regional Training Centre for Pentathlon GB, Bishop Burton College regularly hosts Talent Athletes as they prepare for international competitions. The College recently became home to an international standard outdoor laser shooting range (one of only three in the country), which further improves the outstanding training facilities.

Ann Marshall, Technical Officer at Pentathlon GB, has been working with both athletes as part of the English Talent Programme. She said, “Adam and Georgia have benefitted from the successful partnership between Pentathlon GB and Bishop Burton College. To have progressed to the World Class Talent and Podium Pathway to represent Great Britain is an incredible achievement.”

Adam and Georgia will compete at four disciplines of Modern Pentathlon – Swim, Fence and the exciting Shoot and Run which decides the medals. In order to earn their place on Team GB, they had to pass through three selection competitions, where they both consistently gained top-three rankings.

In Russia they will compete individually and as part of separate boys and girls teams. Ann is quietly confident about their chances, saying, “Adam has improved immensely and won the Youth Pentathlon Championships earlier this year, whilst Georgia already has considerable international experience and medal success. I hope both, individual or team medals could be a real possibility for both of them.”

Director of Sport at the College, James Earl, is delighted with the young athletes’ success, saying, “It is absolutely fantastic to see two products of the Regional Academy at Bishop Burton being selected for Team GB. Our long standing partnership with Pentathlon GB has allowed these young athletes to develop in a first class environment. Getting two young talents on the world class stage is exactly the kind of aim we had for the partnership and fits with the College’s continued commitment to sporting excellence.”
