Ricardo Impressed With Town’s Performance As They Beat Bridlington

Humber Premier League Champions Beverley Town continued their build up to the new season with a fine 2 – 1 victory over Bridlington Town.

Michael O’connell showed his class, as he scored twice Town answering the question’s gaffer David Ricardo had going into the match.

Town were narrowly beaten by the Seasiders when the sides last met in the cup at the Norwood Recreation Ground.

Beverley fell behind on Tuesday evening but two-second strikes from O’Connell flipped the game on its head securing the win for Town.

Ricardo, speaking after the game told HU17.net;

“The match gave me a chance to view if the squad and staff had made any progress since losing to Bridlington last year in the East Riding Senior Cup.”

“The answer was a resounding yes. The lads stuck to a game plan in the first half which built the basis of  earning the right to play controlled football in the second.”

Town have already played a host of friendly fixtures ahead of the 2013 – 2014 season, when quizzed on the choice of fixtures and the nature of the sides Ricardo has lined up said;

“We request to play clubs from higher leagues as it helps develop our players and gives us the best possible chance to get off to a positive start to the season.”

“These matches also help to create good relationships with North East Counties sides, which assists both parties in the loaning of players throughout the season.”

“We have three further friendly games in the next week starting with Hall Road Rangers at Dene Park this Thursday night.”

“We then travel over the bridge to play a strong Barton Town team next Tuesday and finish with a pre season cup game against Sutton Fields on Thursday at the Roy West centre.”

Ricardo has been very impressed with what he is seeing and how the new Academy section and new singing Andrew Stott at Beverley Town is fitting in, he said;

“Overall I have been impressed with how the new Academy lads have settled in as well as has Stott, who has recently joined and has been working hard. He has a great left foot, and all his efforts are really appreciated by the rest of the lads in the squad.”
