East Riding College is now offering a bachelor of arts degree for people who want to progress their career in the childcare sector.
From September, the College will be running a one-year “top-up” course in early childhood policy and practice, equivalent to the final year of a degree, at its Beverley campus.
This is in addition to its well-established Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Policy and Practice which also runs at the campus and is the equivalent to the first two years of a degree.
With tuition fees at £5,750 per year, studying for the foundation degree and then the degree over three years could save students almost £10,000 compared to university fees.
Gerry Hotham, head of early years and care, said: “This top-up course is for people who are interested in the development, care and education of young children.
“It is concerned with ideas and practices that are drawn from a range of disciplines, including history, psychology, philosophy, sociology, law and management, all of which contribute to the field of early years.
“Completing the course could help to progress you onto various career paths such as teaching in the early years field and other senior roles within early years settings. You can also progress your career in a management role.”
Students of the top-up degree will study topics such as outdoor learning and play; well-being and building resilience in young children; communication, language and literacy; international perspectives in early years education; and research methodology.
