Beverley Braves under tens blew off a few cobwebs after the holidays with a convincing win over a spirited Victoria outfit despite still missing eight players.
The Braves engineered seven tries with six different scorers who were very pleasing to see at this age level.
It was pure power and pace for the first three as Cain Robb, Owen Miller and Josh Hamlyn proved unstoppable as they powered over with the conversions coming from Hamlyn, Charlie Gay and Tom Nuttall.
Some good rugby was at the heart of the next couple of tries with nice passing skills off the back of great work from full back Joe McCabe and prop Alex Nuttall, who collected the Man of the match award after some good old fashioned ‘hard yards’ through the middle. Jack Dixon and Tom Nuttall scored on opposite edges showing genuine pace, A Nuttall and Robb tagging on the extras.
Despite conceding a couple of soft tries the Beverley youngsters bounced back and saw the game through with a further try from promising scrum half Robb, who sliced through from half way and a barnstormer from Ellis Gaden, who skittled several would be defenders and won the foot race to place the ball down in the right corner, goaled by Dixon.
A great effort from the boys after a disrupted few weeks.
Coach Craig Collins said afterwards;
“One-man practising sportsmanship is far better than 50 men preaching it”
