Beverley Town Cricket Club 4th XI closed the gap between themselves and league leaders Patrington 2nd XI when they outplayed the visitors at the Norwood Recreation Ground to take 15 points from a winning draw.
Town recovered from losing early wickets thanks to an excellent partnership between Dave Parry and Tom Norton who both made half centuries.
Parry reached that landmark for the first time this season while 15 year-old Norton’s was his first in senior cricket. Rich Simpson (41) and Eddie Salmon (47) gave the total a boost with another good partnership which included a number of sixes and some good running. Town totalled 223 for 6 from their 44 overs.
Patrington had a good start and were almost at the 100 mark when they lost their first wicket. The experienced duo of Iain Sugdon and Neil Graham clawed Beverley back into the game and, with the help of two great run outs by Salmon and Jake McMullen, the home side got on top.
Patrington closed on 177 for 7 and Beverley, with just one fixture remaining, now have to wait and see what happens in Patrington’s game in hand next week. If the Holderness side win they will secure the league title.
