Abigail Fletcher and Ruby Clark, both 10 from Beverley Minster School have been busy over the summer holidays for Lifestyle which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
To raise money, the girls did a bag-pack in Heron Frozen Foods, a car boot, and cleared rubbish from one of the cemeteries, held a bun stall and Ruby did a sponsored non-stop pogo jump, completing three hundred and fifty jumps in three minutes while Abbie did two hundred and ten bottom bumps on her trampoline in five minutes.
The pair really enjoyed coming up with ideas but both agreed they enjoyed packing bags in Heron and the bun stall the best.
Ruby said:
“While we were packing the bags, a few people said to us that we were doing good job raising money for the Beverley Christmas Lights Appeal because they need to keep raising cash all year round.”
“I had no idea how much they cost, the snowflakes are over £1000. The Group have told us we have raised enough to pay for two of the blizzard lights which will be put on new lamp posts in Saturday Market. When they go up in November, we will be able to look at those lights and feel proud that we paid for them’.”
Abbie says:
“I really enjoyed doing Lifestyle but we’ve decided that we are going to keep raising money for the Lights in Beverley and help the Group throughout the year. It’s a really good cause to make Beverley sparkle at Christmas.”
Shirley Pearson, from the Beverley Christmas Lights Appeal said:
“We are very grateful to Ruby and Abbie for raising this money. Our Group runs various events throughout the year so that we can continuously add to the collection of lights we already have.”
“The girls’ help means that we can buy two new small lights which is an unexpected surprise. They are also very keen to continue to fund raise and we can’t wait to see what ideas they come up with next.”
