Donington Park turned out to be a disappointing weekend for Wyberton based G&S Racing Kawasaki as the weather again played its part on Friday; and during his race Tom Fisher was punted off his machine, race over before it began.
Dominic Usher completed his race in 21st place but Daniel Hegarty decided to sit out the weekend as he is still recovering from the injuries received at Cadwell.
Friday morning free practice was a non event for both Tom and Dominic as heavy rain was falling and there was nothing to be gained by riding in the treacherous conditions.
The first qualifying session took place for both classes in the afternoon when, although the track was still wet the rain had eased off and final qualifying on Saturday took place in bright sunshine.
Riding in the Superstock 1000 class Dominic completed his qualifying in 22nd place but the final laps did not go without incident as he crashed during the session. although he was ok the bike needed some TLC prior to the race and he began the session from the eighth row of the grid.
As the lights went out Dominic became tangled in a battle for supremacy at the first corner and was embroiled in a bun fight for position throughout the 15 laps. But he persevered and completed the race in 21st position.
In the Superstock 600 class Tom Fisher produced some fast lap times to qualify in 11th place for a fourth row start. But as the 14-lap affair began Tom was pushed wide in the rush for position at the first corner and dropped down the order.
But he managed to regroup and made his way back through to 15th place by the end of the first lap. He was looking good to move further forward but as he approached Goddards on lap three an out of control rider knocked into him taking the handlebars from his hands causing him to crash through no fault of his own.
Daniel Hegarty is still recovering from the injuries picked up in his crash at Cadwell Park and decided to give Donington a miss to give himself more time to get fully fit. He will be back on the bike for the next round.
Dominic Usher said after the race;
“After two crashes this weekend I have struggled to find my rhythm.”
“I was held up in a group of riders and just couldn’t seem to make the break.”
“If I could have shaken them off I could perhaps have made some headway further up the field.”
“It just didnt happen for me this weekend. I will put this behind me and focus on the next round at Silverstone.”
“I rode in the Silverstone 200 race a couple of weeks ago went really well and have found a good set up so am prepared for the race there in a few weeks’ time.”
