Ahead of her appearance at the Beverley Literature Festival on Thursday, 10 October, Daisy Hildyard has been named as one of the US National Book Foundation’s 5 Under 35 – an award that honours five young fiction authors that show promising talent. She is in esteemed company: amongst Daisy’s four fellow winners – who, for the first time in the award’s eight year history, are all women – is Man Booker nominee NoViolet Bulawayo.
Daisy is appearing at the festival as part of the Ridings Writers series, which gives festival-goers the chance to hear authors who were born or live in Yorkshire and to find out how God’s own country has influenced their writing. Originally, from York, Daisy’s debut novel Hunters in the Snow begins in a Yorkshire farmhouse before taking a journey through history with some unusual twists and turns along the way.
Other authors in the Ridings Writers series include one of the East Riding’s best-loved authors, Val Wood; detective novelist Andrew Martin and fiction writer Susanna Jones, who will be speaking at a Literary Lunch on Friday, 11 October at Tickton Grange Hotel, with festival director, Dorcas Taylor.
Dorcas said: “It’s always wonderful to see young local writing talent being celebrated, and it’s even more exciting when those celebrations come from a whole other continent.
“We are delighted that Daisy will be the opening event of the Beverley Literature Festival this year and look forward to hearing more about how Yorkshire has influenced her writing.”
Daisy will be discussing Hunters in the Snow and at her event at the Beverley Literature Festival on Thursday, 10 October, 1-2pm, at the Treasure House.
