Passengers in Hull have been given the chance to snap up extra-value tickets as First Hull Trains launches its biggest ever autumn ticket promotion.
It comes after the company has achieved record breaking passenger numbers for the last eight consecutive months, transporting more people between the stations it serves and London King’s Cross than ever before.
In a move to continue this unrelenting success, the company has released a number of tickets starting at £10 – with First Class travel available from £36. First Hull Trains already a carries 200,000 passenger from Hull every year.
Jennifer Handley, from First Hull Trains, said: “We’ve had a tremendous year so far, passenger numbers have been quite exceptional and we believe that is testament to the service we provide.
“We’ve had some excellent periods of performance and the National Passenger Survey saw us come out on top – proving we are rated highly by the people that matter most, our customers.
“Now, we want to really finish this year on a high and have started the biggest ticket promotion we have ever managed.
“People all along the route are been given the chance to get their hands on these tickets all day, every day. This isn’t a sale but a rationalisation of our ticketing offer, which will mean passengers can access these price points when they book in advance.
“Many passenger genuinely don’t believe we sell tickets for £10 but there are many available on our services – there isn’t a cheaper way to get to London.”
First Hull Trains is an open-access operator which runs 90 services every week between Hull and London King’s Cross calling at Brough, Howden, Selby, Doncaster, Retford and Grantham.
The company has, for the last three years, delivered inflation-busting fares, but is now passing on even bigger saving to the 750,000 who travel on the 90 services a week.
And David Walford, the Humber Region Rail Development Manager, said: “It’s great to see a transport provider not just selling very low priced tickets but shouting about them as well! First Hull Trains has really progressed in terms of quality and delivery, and here we see a drive to provide even better value-for-money.
“Nationally we are seeing some complaints about the rise in rail fares, but here we see right on our doorstep the best-loved train operator in the UK offering people travel for less than five pence a mile – it’s easy to see why they were recently voted as the best in the UK. They provide a massive boost to our region’s economy.”
