5th Beverley (Wesley) Scout Group have thanked Beverley Town Council for awarding them a grant of £1500 from the Small Grants Fund to enable them to invest in new Camping Equipment.

The first item purchased was a new Mess Tent, from BCT Outdoors, which the Scouts learned to pitch at their last meeting.

It will be used for the first time, this coming weekend; when the Scouts are holding their Autumn Camp at Great Tower Scout Activity Centre in the Lake District.

Over the coming weeks, they will also be looking to purchase an additional event shelter and some cooking & dining equipment.

This valuable equipment will enable the group to be more self sufficient when camping.

Group Scout Leader, Darren Burgess said;

“We cannot thank the Town Council enough for this kind donation.”

“The group is funded entirely from member subscriptions & fundraising events. Grants like this enable us to keep to cost of Scouting as low as possible for our members.”

He also went on to say that the group were looking at how they could use such equipment to benefit other community groups;

“We loaned our event shelter to the Bowls Club for an event earlier in the summer and we’d like to find a way to be able to help other groups in this way too.”

5th Beverley (Wesley) Scout Group was first established in 1928 & currently has 68 young members aged between 6 & 14.

Scouting continues to grow in popularity but unfortunately, there are around 40,000 young people on waiting lists nationwide and locally there are far more enquiries than there are places available.

If they could attract more volunteers; they could open more sections and let more local boys and girls experience the benefits of Scouting.
