Beverley Braves under tens ended a successful season with a very good performance at Saltend losing on goal kicks only after sharing ten tries with Skirlaugh. Man of the match Isaac Merryweather gobbled up the yards down the middle and chipped in with some stern defence as he just beat the ever impressive, four try Cain Robb to the award.
Although it was five tries apiece it was the manner of Beverley’s four pointers that was very pleasing, giving the ball plenty of air with bodies pouring forward in support, one particular effort ended up with centre Will Cohen diving over off an amazing flick pass from Owen Miller after an initial Merryweather break earlier in the tackle count.
Strong defence from top tackler Ellis Gaden, powerful second row Josh Hamlyn and prop forward Alex Nuttall kept things tight in the middle while some amazing cover defence from wingers Matty Shirley and Joe McCabe kept the young Braves in the game.
In attack, Charlie Gay took the ball to the line and continually found holes for the likes of Jack Dixon, Tom Nuttall and Robb to exploit. The latter’s four try haul a typical display for him of pace and power.
Bryan Usher, Alexei Rawlings, Antonio Seminara and Rhys Wallan deserve praise also for getting stuck in, whilst the service from Shamus Blades at hooker was as usual very, very good. In all the boys have enjoyed a good season, worked hard for each other and most of the time have got the results they deserved. Well done.
Coach Craig Collins said afterwards “There are always three sides to every story: your side, the other side, and the truth.”
