Shirley’s Nomination Gives Breakthrough Breast Cancer The Prize

Nominated by loyal member Shirley Harrison, Breakthrough Breast Cancer were Beverley Building Society Charity of the Month winners in September.

From washing cars to bake sales Shirley has campaigned and raised money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer since a school friend sadly passed away after suffering with the disease. Now the fundraising manager for the East Yorkshire region, Shirley aims to generate as much support as she can in the fight against breast cancer.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a force of thousands of people across the UK who work together with the same ambition – to stop women dying from breast cancer.

To achieve this, the charity runs events across the country to raise funds for research into the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

Shirley said:

“I was delighted when Breakthrough Breast Cancer were included in the charity of the month competition but to see them win was overwhelming.”

“The competition really does change people’s lives, not only through the donation but the awareness it gives to each charity.”

The Beverley’s Charity of the Month campaign has so far supported twenty-one different charities and donated a grand total of £5,250.
