Beverley Athletes Help Team GB Win Six Medals At World Championships

This year six athletes from Beverley qualified to represent Great Britain in the World Biathle Championships in Lymisol Cyprus.

Raymond Noble, Jordan Mounsey, Connie Mounsey, Megan Lazenby, Natasha Bellamy and Luke Chapman were all picked after qualifying through the national series and a qualifying round at Manchester’s Salford Quays.

Biathle sees the athletes tackle a run followed by an open water swim and then another run across different distances based on age.

Four of the six, Raymond, Jordan, Natasha and Megan all enjoyed success collectively winning six medals at the championships.

Jordan Mounsey who finished position 7th in a time of 13:56 after went on to claim a team gold medal adding to the gold he won in the World Series he told HU17.net

“This sport is a great test of your endurance, and it was great to be competing at its highest level.”

There was an individual silver and a team gold for Natasha Bellemy after she finished second with a time of 15:37.

Megan Lazenby claimed two medals for her efforts picking up an individual bronze and team gold she said;

“This was an awesome experience being able to compete against athletes from across the world.”

Raymond Noble who also entered for the first time this year came away with a gold medal.

A swimming coach with the Beverley Barracudas Nobel was delighted with his medal. Having spent four months training and losing two stone he walked away with a much-deserved gold medal.

Connie was very pleased to have been selected to represent Great Britain in her first year of competing as she finished with a time of 5:02 in heats, reaching the final.

Luke Chapman who took part in the youth C boys finishing position 11th clocking up a time of 5:22.

As a sport, they receive little support financial help, and it is hoped that with their achievements at the World Championships, it will help them find sponsorship deals with local businesses.
