East Riding of Yorkshire Council unveiled two important documents at Bishop Burton College designed to provide practical advice and guidance on the subject of rural transport.

The Community Transport Strategy has been constructed with the input and agreement of local community transport groups. The policy lays out a clear path for community transport along with targets, aims and aspirations for these valuable groups.

The Parish Transport Toolkit is a document for town and parish councils and lays simple steps for local people to adopt which will both identify transport requirements and help to find the most appropriate method of transport delivery.

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of the council, said:

“The council is well aware of the value our residents place in having access to transport, especially given the largely rural nature of the East Riding “The need for transport in rural areas across the country is in high demand at a time when the availability of public transport, in some areas, is unfortunately reducing.

“These two documents attempt to find innovative ways to deliver the required services and are part of the council’s overall aim to continue to support transport links in the East Riding and the communities they serve.”
