Yellows Get Back On TracK With Win Over Ferriby

Mill Lane United Yellows got back on the winning trail in the East Riding Girls Football League with a hard-fought victory against a determined North Ferriby side.

Straight from the kick off Ferriby were on the attack and took a deserved lead when Beatrice Wood finished in style after latching onto a through ball from midfield to make the score 1-0 to the home side. The Yellows knew they were in a game as Ferriby dominated play raising their games as most teams do against their high-flying opponents. Nothing was really going right for the Yellows, who were struggling to carve out any real openings as the Ferriby defence restricted them to long range efforts which impressive goal keeper Jessica Gray easily snuffed out .

With time running out Mill Lane some how clawed their way back into the game just before half time. The Yellows finally found some space near the Ferriby penalty area and a through ball from striker Alice Johnson found Morgan Nagee on her own just inside the penalty area, quickly getting the ball under control Nagee unleashed a fierce shot from 15yards, which beat Gray in the Ferriby goal to make the score 1-1 at half time against the run of play. The second half started with the Yellows from Mill Lane on the front foot. Starting to win the 50/50 challenger which was lacking in the first-half chances started to be created.

Driven on by winger Charlotte Holliday Mill Lane started to dominate, and only some superb saves from Gray kept them out. At the other end, the defence of Pashby, McConville, Holiday and Rushworth ably assisted by the rapidly improving shot stopper Courtney Lees started to dominate the Ferriby attack. This gave the Yellows territorial advantage and a mountain of possession in the Ferriby half. Chance after chance went begging and just when the game looked like heading for a draw Mill Lane Yellows created the winning position.

After several near misses a pin-point corner from Charlotte Holliday was met by captain Emma Johnson who saw her header fly into the top corner to give Mill Lane a deserved lead with 10 minutes to play. The Yellows played out the rest of the game to secure all 3 points against opponents who battled for the full 80 minutes and contributed to a superb game of girl’s football were no quarter was asked or given.

For Mill Lane a gutsy effort, the performance was certainly not their best but as always with this set of girls they battled hard, stuck at it and some how came away with victory. Man of the match for Mill Lane went to winger Charlotte Holliday for a superb second half attacking performance, which changed the game upside down.
