Bishop Burton Gardeners’ Club Get New Season Of Meetings Underway

Bishop Burton Gardeners’ Club opened its 2013/14 season of meetings with an entertaining address from Sue Hoy, formerly head gardener at Normanby Hall.

Her presentation entitled “Plants with Personality” covered the wide range of plants that she had come across during her career and how they all had different, often humorous, characteristics. The audience of over 60 members were well entertained and informed.

The Club’s next meeting is on Tuesday November 5th at St Mary’s Parish Hall, North Bar Within in Beverley at 7.30pm and is about Gertrude Jekyll, a well-known garden designer. The presentation will be given by Rose Horspool of Vista Arts, based in North Dalton.

Gertrude Jekyll lived through the 19th and 20th centuries and designed over 400 gardens in many parts of the world. Her influence still lives on in garden design today. She was also associated with the architect Sir Edward Lutyens on many construction projects.

Membership of the club is £15 per year or non-members are welcome to attend for £4 entry fee. Refreshments are served after the meeting.
