Hot Topic Training From The Lick Team Promotes International Youth Work

26 youth workers from 11 different countries were brought together recently by Beverley-based social entreprise Wild Cherry Training & Education, thanks to a generous grant from the British Council, the UK’s National Agency of the European Commission’s Youth in Action Programme.

The week-long transnational training course entitled, ‘LICK (language integrated content kit) – Capacity Building in Migration & Employabilty’, gave them the opportunity to debate and discuss the hot topic of migration and employability in a European context.

Representatives from the UK, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Moldova, Macedonia, Italy, Spain, Serbia, Poland, Romania and Armenia all shared tools, knowledge and experience to use in their international youth work in the future and cooperate to create new and innovative ways of working with young people and increasing their employment prospects.

Sue Dudill, Director of Training explained;

“We are delighted to be bringing such wonderful participants over to the UK and specifically to Yorkshire to promote our region and to see the ‘real England’.”

“Often our international colleagues are attracted by the prospect of such events taking place in London and we are in a good position to be able to change all that and equally to help those taking part to create trans-national projects which increase the mobility of young people in our area.”

Wild Cherry’s well-established international training team are not only members of the Youth in Action national trainers’ pools of the UK and Bulgaria, but also highly skilled EFL and ESOL tutors.

They offer a package of non-formal education that comprises the integration of language and communication skills with a priority topic to empower the learners with the tools and knowledge that will enable them to work more effectively with young people on both a local and international level.

This style of learning allows them to develop their skills and competences in new ways, acquiring recognition through Youth Pass to evidence their learning journey and achievements.
