Beavers U10s Perform Well At East Yorkshire Festival

To Brantingham Park last Sunday, where the U10’s took part in The East Yorkshire Festival. The boys didn’t make the finals but put in some great performances.

The boys lost their first game to Hullensians. There were some positives to take away from this though. Some textbook tackling from Oliver Scanlan and a superb try in the corner from Max Cowey. Strong running from Oliver Rogers and Tom Hirst. It was felt that the team was generally well organised; tackling was good all round as was communication. But the boys’ ability to support each other going forward and in the rucks was identified as a weakness. In some ways this game was marred by Hullensians’ repeated infringement of the ‘high tackle’ rule. They were penalised for many of these.

Final score: Hullensians 3 Beverley RUFC 1

In the second game against Goole, the boys found better form. Inspired by some ferocious tackling from Oliver Scanlan, Oliver Eagle, Max and Kaie Bosworth all stepped-up their tackling game. There were good tries for Oliver Rogers and Max Cowey. Oliver Vaux also performed well in straight running, discovering that he has strength and speed and is actually quite hard to stop! Rucking got better in this game.

Final score: Goole 3 Beverley RUFC 2

A strongly-worded debrief from their coach got the boys more focused for what was to to be their final game, Hornsea. This was a tour de force. Tries for Thomas Wheeler, Oshi Hopson, Oliver Scanlan, Tom Hirst, Oliver Eagle and Kaie Bosworth. Great side-stepping runs from Conor Murphy and determined rucking from Tom Jackson. Harry Spence got stuck in with some superb tackling and Marcus Reid powered forward fearlessly.

Final score: Hornsea 0 Beverley RUFC 6.

Coaches’ award for Top Rucker went to Oliver Eagle. Coaches’ Player of The Week was Kaie Bosworth.
