Children at Swinemoor Primary School having been enhancing their textile skills this term as part of their Design and Technology Curriculum.
All of the school has been taking part in a project that has seen them produce a wide range of work including an impressive range of Christmas Decorations.
Serena Applegate who is responsible for DTC at Swinemoor Primary School explained;
“The youngest children have learnt how to weave while the infants have made Christmas bunting, baubles and presents.”
“Our junior pupils have made Christmas trees and stockings. The older children have been working in teams on larger projects to make advent calendars and table runners.”
Their efforts have not gone unnoticed by their teachers, Miss Applegate added;
“The children have certainly risen to the challenge of designing and working with a range of fabrics.”
“They have learnt a range of stitches and finishing techniques to improve the standard of the finished product.”
Throughout the term pupils have been completing lots of different projects. Make do and Mend challenged the children to recycle old clothing as of life in War time.
They have been busy designing and making school bags, weaving in a range of situations and using fabric paints to tie-dye t-shirts that were showcased in a fashion show.
All of their work is now being used to decorate the school that has a real festive feel about the place from the moment you arrive at reception.
