Beverley Town manager Dave Ricardo said he was ‘really happy’ with his side after they started the New Year with a 5 – 1 win at the Norwood Recreation Ground.
Town made light work of Westella with four first half goals and single goal in the second half with Matty Start, Rob Northen (2), Danny Norton and Dane Mortimer all scoring.
However the champions did finish the game with ten men after Northen was shown a straight red card for an alleged elbow.
Ricardo said;
“I am really happy with the way the lads applied themselves and set a good tempo in the first half.”
“We didn’t start the second half with the same mentality and that resulted in the game being of less quality.”
“Rob was really unlucky to be shown a red card. After playing with Rob for the last ten years I know he’s not the type to throw elbows at players and in this case the linesman has put two and two together and come up with a left over Christmas pudding!”
With the card comes three match ban and for town the implications may be felt in a far greater with as they see yet another front man sidelined.
Town’s manager when quizzed about the red card said;
“I didn’t see the incident however my assistant Steve Mulligan confirmed there was no elbow thrown.”
Nine points behind Humber Premier League leaders Reckitts AFC with three games in hand, Beverley will be a looking for all three points again this weekend as they entertain Hornsea Town at the Norwood Recreation Ground.
Final Score: Beverley Town 5 Westella & Willerby 1
