Toes And Yorkshire Triumph At National Squash Finals

Beverley squash player Zac Toes aged 11 and his U13 Yorkshire team mates secured victory in the National Inter County Championships Finals in Guildford, Surrey on 18/19 January to cap an impressive U13 debut season for the Longcroft School pupil.

Going into the event, Toes was full of confidence after securing his first under 13 tournament title the previous weekend by defeating England No 25 Andrew Shipley (Northumbria) in the semi final and William Gibbon (Durham) in the final of the Heaton Open, Bradford

In the semi final of the championships, Toes and his team mates were pitted against a strong Kent team. Toes secured an early lead for his county by defeating his opponent Josh Cutting 11/9, 11/7, 10/12, 11/3 before his team finished as worthy 4-1 winners.

In the final, all players produced a professional performance with Toes winning 11/6, 11/6, 11/4 against his Gloucestershire opponent before his team mates rounded off a 5-0 victory and were crowned National County Champions for 2014.

Fellow Beverley player Lydia Robinson captained Yorkshire Girls U13 team to the National Trophy Finals and produced one of her best performances of the season to beat England No 4 Lucinda Cross (Northumbria) in the final.
