Beverley Foodbank received have received a donation from the thanks to the efforts of staff at the ASDA store in Beverley of over £200.

ASDA’s Community Champion Hannah Burnitt delivered the cheque herself to the charity who help feed people in our community. The money was raised in store by holding prize draw and they Foodbank also won ASDA’s bi monthly vote.

Rich Newby from Beverley Foodbank which is operated by the Trussell Trust said;

“This is a wonderful donation we have received today. It will be used to help us provide the services we offer to the community.”

In 2012-13 foodbanks fed 346,992 people nationwide. Of those helped, 126,889 were children. Rising costs of food and fuel combined with static income, high unemployment and changes to benefits are causing more and more people to come to foodbanks for help.

Recent reports in the news show a growing demand on Foodbanks here in the UK as Hungry families are said to be pleading for food bank vouchers which is pushing GP surgeries to breaking point. The Beverley Foobank which operates out of Toll Gavel United Church helps up to 15 families per week.

Volunteers sort, pack and pack food then exchange the food parcels for vouchers that are issued to those in need.

Richard added;

“We are always happy to accepted donated food. Anyone wanting to donate can do so, ideally when bringing food into the Foodbank it needs to be non-perishable. However we cannot accept any food that is best its sell by date.”

Hannah said;

“It is really good what they are doing and we hope we can continue to be involved with this and other projects within the community.”

“I would like to thank all our customers and colleagues for their efforts in making this possible.”
