Students from East Riding College took part in a range of cultural and religious activities as part of their Equality and Diversity Week.
Activities were held throughout the week at both the Gallows Lane campus in Beverley and in St Mary’s Walk, Bridlington.
Learners had the chance to enhance their learning experience with activities which combined fun with personal and group development.
The activities included an introduction to Indian culture and the opportunity to learn more about issues affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities, eating disorders, mental health, the traveller community and equality and diversity in sport.
A wide range of food dishes from countries and cultures around the world was served in the College refectories throughout the week, allowing learners to try national dishes they may not have experienced before.
The Living Faith Library workshop provided learners with the opportunity to find out about a wide range of religions and what people of different faiths believe and why they believe. They were able to talk to followers of different faiths such as Sikhism, Humanism, Quakers, Christianity and others.
Enrichment officer Tracy Underwood said
“The aim of this week was to give learners who may not have had the opportunity before the chance to talk to people from other cultures and religions.
“The learners found the activities fun and interesting and they were very enthusiastic to learn about the different cultures.”
