The English Genius To Be Perfomred By Orchestra Of The Swan

Orchestra of the Swan will be performing The English Genius at Toll Gavel United Church in Beverley on Thursday 20 March, at 7.30pm.

The programme includes some of the finest repertoire by four of the greatest English composers from the 20th century, and a rising star of the 21st century, Huw Watkins, Orchestra of the Swan’s ‘composer in the House’.

They will open with Holst’s ebullient St Paul’s Suite, composed for his students in West London, and then to Elgar’s touchingly intimate Serenade, dedicated to his wife and life-long muse, Alice. Huw’s new work ends the first half and Tamsin Waley-Cohen performs the iconic The Lark Ascending before the conclusion with another joyous work, Britten’s Simple Symphony.

Tom Hutchinson, from Royal Philharmonic Society, and Huw Watkins will be giving a free pre-concert talk at 6.45pm on Thursday 20 March. The talk will last approximately 20 minutes. Tickets cost £14 for adults, £12 for concessions, and are available from Beverley Tourist Information Centre.
