Fisher Praises Acklam As He Takes Over Reins At Norwood

Incoming Beverley Town CC captain Jon Fisher says former skipper Alan Acklam has laid the foundations for ongoing success at the club.

Acklam has stepped down from the captaincy role after more than a decade of hard work at the club.

Now it’s the turn of Fisher. The powerhouse batsman has the credentials to lead the team, and has the weight of runs to lead from the front. His 111 at the Norwood Recreation Ground against Goole in 2011 was an innings not to be forgotten declaring it was ‘Something Special‘ and he scored two senior 50s last season.

Now the responsibility will weigh more firmly on his shoulders, but Fisher is confident everything is in place for a fine season for his club.

Fisher said: “Alan had his own reasons for stepping down.

“All I can say is that I am very lucky to take over from him – due to his relentless commitment to the club, he has laid a fantastic set of building blocks from where I hope to develop and build further.

“I am very honoured to be made captain of Beverley CC. After playing for the club for five seasons prior to this one I’m looking forward to the challenge of this one over and above any season I’ve ever played.

“My big hope is that we improve on our league position from last season and build a squad capable of challenging for the title.

“Beverley will be expected to do very well at all levels. I’d like to see all senior sides develop and improve from last season.

“With the likelihood of three or four new signings for the 1st/2nd team, the competition for places in each team will be greater than ever and will hopefully reflect in our results.”
