The blue and golds had a huge list of players unavailable for various reasons the day this match.
Coach Guy Adams had only 14 fit players to choose from, and with no league points at stake the club were tempted to concede the tie. However, for the good of the game they decided to go ahead.
The first twenty minutes of the game were scoreless as the home sides strong-arm tactics, which saw high tackles going in at regular intervals, seemed to go unpunished. Indeed, the visitors almost took the lead on two occasions.
Joe Wileman put his player coach Guy Adams in the clear only to see him pulled back for a forward pass. Furthermore, Ryan Watkin’s short pass to Steve Connolly sent him in the clear but Connolly could not hold onto the ball. The home side got their first try mid-way through the half which then prompted a blitz of scoring, which saw them go 32-0 up at the interval.
The second half continued in similar fashion with the home side clinically finishing almost every scoring opportunity before the visitors rallied.
There were some brave contributions from Lee Stevens, Joe Wileman and Daryl Gregory, who stroved manfully to go forward against a very physical opposition. They were often subjected to high tackles in the process. Man of the match was Ben Calvert looked to make the most headway going forward. Full back Steve Connolly weighed in with a number of try-saving tackles.
Connolly joined the line late in the game to get a neat reverse pass away to send Lee Falcus over in the corner. A further consolation try saw Ben Calvert go over following a spell of better possession and territory.
Beverley will return to league action this Saturday with a home fixture against Lambwath Lions. The corresponding fixture earlier in the season saw them go down to a narrow 12-6 defeat. Coach Guy Adams should see most of last weeks absentees return. Kick off is 2pm at the Leisure Centre.
