Employment statistics released last week show that 14 million women are currently in work; the highest number since records began.
Additionally, the Office for National Statistics announced unemployment fell by 125,000 between October and December 2013, and a 1.1 percent rise in average earnings.
In Beverley and Holderness, the number of unemployed claimants is 458 fewer than in January 2013 and the rate of unemployment stands at 3.2 percent of the economically active population aged 16-64.
Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart, commented:
“The latest statistics provide further evidence that this Government’s long-term economic plan is fostering a positive climate for job creation. A record number of women are employed and average earnings are rising, helping to improve the quality of life for millions of families across the country.
“The figures provide yet more proof that we cannot afford to return to the failed economic policies of the previous Government that contributed to the financial crisis; we need to stay on the pro-growth course the Coalition is delivering.”
