Civilian staff at the Defence School of Transport with over 100 years of service between them have been acknowledged.
Mrs. Susan Boys, Mr. David Elvidge, Mr. John Sprague and Mr. John Rutherford were awarded with ARTD long service certificate that was presented to them by Brigadier Allen McLeod, Commandant of the Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration.
David Elvidge who was awarded a certificate for twenty years unbroken service recalled how he started working at the base, he said;
“In 1993 I made what I believed to be the right decision, I still do, a decision that changed my life. My son Alex was under a year-old, and I quit my job as a Body Shop Foreman to go work for the Army School of Transport at Leconfield as it was then called.”
“It had taken years to become a Body Shop Foreman, so I was concerned about my future, my families. So there I was attached to the REME Workshop, I painted as you can guess lots of green and black trucks and then more green and black trucks.”
“My future could have been all green and black but five years later one of the Workshop Production Office Progressors retired. I applied and got his job and with the experience I gained and qualifications acquired at Beverley College, I was promoted to Workshop Supervisor.”
“Not content with that I was again promoted in 2006 to become Quality Assurance Manager. I’ve met some fantastic people along the way made some long-lasting friendships and am now proud to say I’m an established Civil Servant, and we all know there’s only one thing better than that, it’s one that for works for the MOD.”
“Receiving my long service award from Brigadier McLeod is something I am extremely proud of it. It means a lot to me to receive this recognition and to continue working with like-minded people.”
“Twenty years at Leconfield, wouldn’t change a thing, here’s to another twenty……….well maybe fifteen.”
