Mill Lane Wizards u12s met Beverley Town in their Myton league one encounter at a blustery Longcroft school, as the conditions meant good passing football was going to be at a premium.
Despite the conditions, both teams battled hard throughout a tense first half. Mill Lane with the wind at their backs found it hard to control the ball despite dominating for much of the half as Beverley struggled to make any headway.
When the Wizards did create some good opportunities either the wood work or the Town keeper, with some fine saves, kept the scores level.
George Addison looked the most likely to break the deadlock as he broke free and crashed an unstoppable shot against the town bar. Five minutes later he repeated the feat as his left foot pile driver came back of the post and was then scrambled away.
The second half started in similar fashion with Mill Lane dominating the match as they found it easier to play against the wind. Eventually, the relentless pressure paid off as the ball was switched quickly to the right to give Matty Tomlinson time and space to smash a looping cross come shot over the town keeper and into the net.
With the solid back 3 of Adam Prince, Zac Wise and Danny Wilson keeping the town attack at bay, Mill Lane pressed forward and soon doubled their advantage. Some neat footwork by Lloyd Bean released Jamie Pettigrew, and his driving run and cross found Tomlinson in the box to make it 2:0.
Beverley continued to battle hard with the industrious Patrick Roscoe winning tackles and breaking up play in the middle of the park. However, it was the Wizards that soon scored again as Mill Lane were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Ben Gillyon stepped up and crashed his shot over the wall and into the top corner to make it 3-0.
The Wizards continued to press forward, and it was no surprise when another flowing move put Tomlinson clean through, and he made no mistake to complete a well-deserved hat trick.
Final Score: Beverley Town 0 Mill Lane Untied Wizards 4
