Beavers Face Visit West Yorkshire For Clash With Bradford

Beverley RUFC pick up the reins of their League programme this weekend with their trip to the West Riding to face Bradford & Bingley.

This should be an intriguing game, Beverley romped to victory beating Bradford 69 – 7 when the sides last met in November at Beaver Park and the Beavers ought to fancy themselves to pick up the points.

The Bees have not performed as well as many expected this season and in fact are staring relegation in the face as they are second from the bottom of the table and 7 points adrift of safety.

Notwithstanding that, Beverley will take nothing for granted. The Bees have proved themselves capable of causing an upset, the latest being their victory at Westoe in their last game, a result that Beverley were unable to achieve.

Head coach Anthony Posa will, once again this week at training, endeavour to pick up the pieces of this disjointed season and regain continuity of performance from his squad.

The week on-week off period through January and February has had its effect on any sort of continuity and makes a mockery of the RFU’s proposals to restructure the leagues to give even more blank weekends.

Posa speaking ahead of the game said;

“We have what we got in terms of season structures, and the fact that this season has been relatively unaffected in terms of losing games to weather, has left us with blank weekend after blank weekend which isn’t ideal.”

“Baring that in mind, it’s almost unbelievable when you hear that the powers that be are planning on reducing the leagues even further.”

One of the few benefits of these continuous layoffs is the chance for those on the Beavers extensive injury list to recover, with the most hope this week given to returns for Robbie Davidson and Joe Pickets, though Pickets may be a better chance for the Burnage game the following week.

Most of the others remain out however, notably key players, Sam Kerry, Lee Birch and James Mckay. Elliot Becker is promoted from the Colts squad and will be pushing for his full debut this week, with Anthony Posa targeting Becker as one for the future.

Anyone wishing to travel to the game will need to be at Beaver Park for 11-30am.
