Mile in Memory Returns To The Humber Bridge

May 17th sees the welcome return of the Mile in Memory at the Humber Bridge.

In recent years people have come together and walked in memory of Louise Barrett’s son, Ellis, who sadly died just 4 days old. This year they are joining forces with the family of Alexander Richardson and walking in memory of both little boys.

Louise explains;

“Alexander was 17 months old when he died and, as with Ellis, Alexander is a SIDS baby. We will be walking in their memory raising vital funds for The Lullaby Trust in order that they can support families like ours and although that they may fund research into the causes of Sudden Infant Death.”

“In some ways I feel that Nicola and Ian Richardson had it much worse than we did. Ellis died at 4 days old, we barely knew him. We hadn’t had 17 months to get to know him, we never knew his cheeky smile, and we didn’t get to teach him to walk or talk.”

“Nicola and Ian did all these things and their baby was cruelly taken from them. I can’t begin to imagine how they must have felt.”

“Ellis was our first child so we didn’t have the grief of other children to deal with; Alexander was a twin and had 2 older brothers. Can you imagine how Alexander’s brothers could begin to understand what had happened, in particular his twin?”

“They are a credit to their parents.”

Everyone is welcome to take part and show their support, there is no need to collect sponsorship or pay an entry but there is an option to make a donation to the charity.

To take part in the Humber Bridge Mile in Memory of Ellis and Alexander all you need to do is meet in the north car park at 10.45am on the 17th May.

Louise added;

“There are walks taking place all over the country. In 2013, over 65 walks were organised across the UK and they raised a fantastic £67,000! We are hoping to smash this in 2014.”
