Quite possibly the best squash club in the area, that is how one member, Phil Moses feels about Beverley Squash and Racketball Club after a season that has seen the club enjoy so much success.
Speaking to HU17.net Moses, who plays the game himself is keen on spreading the word and shouting about the success of the club, he said;
“There is something special happening here at Beverley Squash and Racketball Club. This season both the first and second team won their divisions, and what’s more they were won in style.”
The club, based at the Norwood Recreation Ground compete in the Hull & District League and have teams taking part in Division 1, 2, 3 and 4, plus the quality of youth coming through the ranks means Beverley are looking at a very bright future, Moses said;
“With the club having both of its top teams winning their leagues and the emergence of some top quality junior squash players the future looks bright.”
“Lydia Robinson & Zac Toes are outstanding prospects, and that puts the club in a fantastic position moving forward. We have quality in the senior ranks too, this season we even had people coming to watch our matches due to the quality on show.”
While the A Team at Beverley won their league title by 50 points that saw included and unbeaten season from George Bannister, the B Team also have plenty to proud of too as they won their title without losing a match.
Moses plays for the B Team that have since been dubbed the ‘invincibles’ said;
“It has been a great period for our team. Ben Robinson and James Robinson had an amazing season. They played in every game and were never beaten.”
“Skipper Dave Tongeman has also been superb throughout this campaign. His knowledge of the game showed when picking the correct team sheet for each match not to mention managing the players all season.”
Moses feels that it is an exciting time for squash in the region. After its success last year The Allam British Open Squash Championships are set to return to the area in May.
Moses said;
“The British Open Squash Championships is a massive event, for it to be happening in Hull again is great news and helps to promote the sport to a wider audience which helps clubs like our potentially attract new members.”
It’s not all about Squash at Norwood which is something that Moses is keen to point out;
“As a recreation club we are enjoying great success in a number of sports and competing at the highest levels locally.”
“Beverley Town Football team became the first team outside of Hull to win the Humber Premier League and are currently just one game away from national success, the cricket team play York & District Senior Cricket League Premier Division and of course we have a healthy tennis and bowls sections.”
“The whole of the recreation club is a great place to be at the moment, but we are always looking for new members.”
